Raelin's art in Age of Annihilation.
Raelin the Kyrie Warrior is one of Heroscape's most prominent characters, appearing in comics, cartoons, and more. A native of Valhalla who has watched her home be torn apart by war, she fights on Jandar's side to win the Rise of the Valkyrie conflict and restore peace and order. She is a close friend of Sgt. Drake Alexander, and appeared with him in both the Rise of the Valkyrie and Swarm of the Marro master sets.
A third figure is planned for Heroscape: Age of Annihilation, giving her and Sgt. Drake Alexander the unique privilege of having three versions of their character in Heroscape. You can only control one Unique figure with the same name, thus, you can only have one version of Raelin in your army at a time.
Raelin the Kyrie Warrior (Rise of the Valkyrie)[]
Raelin the Protector, Raelin the Kindhearted, Raelin the Valorous; this beautiful, benevolent Kyrie is called many such names by her loyal followers. A native of Valhalla, Raelin enjoyed a carefree and adventurous youth; then the war began, and her abiding friendship with Jandar bound her to his cause.
To the relief of friendly forces, Raelin will often swoop into the throes of battle and, striking the ground with her magical Spear of Gerda, engulf them in a shimmering blue force field. The warriors within this aura are instantly protected - even from Mimring's ferocious Line of Fire.[1]

- “Clear Sight Spaces”
What does "clear sight spaces" mean?
From page 15 of the 2nd edition rules: "To determine clear sight, use Raelin's Target Point. If she can see any part of your figures (not just the Hit Zone) within the 4 spaces, they are affected by the Defensive Aura." (Hasbro FAQ)[2]
Raelin the Kyrie Warrior (Swarm of the Marro)[]
Raelin the Merciful, Raelin the Resolute, Raelin of the Spear. All of these brave names and many more sing the praises of one of Jandar’s boldest champions. A unique creature even among her own race of Kyrie, she flies through the skies filling her enemies with dread as they see her approach in the distance. Few characters have her speed and strength in combat, and her mere presence on the battlefield becomes an inspiration to all allies around her. Her Spear of Gerda has become a famed weapon as its blue energies protect all those around her.
With the certain knowledge that Raelin is guarding an ally’s back, friendly forces become better able to defend themselves, turning into killing machines as she protects their flank. Common troops flock to her side in support of her attacks, as her spirit and brave deeds are an inspiration to the allies surrounding her.
Flying above the canopy of the Ticalla Jungle, she’s the perfect scout, ignoring the thick vines constantly pulling on the rest of Drake’s squad. Complex land features like jungles, swamps, and mountain ridges mean nothing to her. Her powerful wings carry her through the skies.

History[]

Thormun's sketch of Raelin.
Rise of the Valkyrie[]
From a young age she had an abiding friendship with Jandar, and joined his cause when the Rise of the Valkyrie began and Raelin's home was destroyed by the Valkyrie Utgar.[3] Raelin trained under Jandar's watch, and he gifted her with the magical Spear of Gerda, allowing her to protect her allies on the battlefield with its protective aura.
Not long after Sgt. Drake Alexander was summoned to Valhalla, she rescued him from a collapsing pillar caused by Agent Carr. She also tore through a Deathwalker 9000 with her spear in this conflict.[4]
She went on a scouting mission with Thormun while he was acting as a scout for Jandar's Northern Army, and told him of some of Utgar's vile troops that she had encountered, including Blade Gruts and Marro Warriors.[5]
She had a brief and heated encounter with Runa, who was sometimes rumored to be the daughter of Utgar. At least three Sentinels of Jandar were killed in the encounter, but Raelin escaped.[6]

Raelin to the rescue in Heroscape Comic #2.
When Sgt. Drake was captured by Mimring on a mission to explore the lakes in Jutanguard, she accompanied Finn and Thorgrim the viking champions, as well as the Airborne Elite and the young viking Hal, to rescue him. They fought several Marro Warriors before bursting into the base where Grimnak, Deathwalker 9000, and Ne-Gok-Sa. Hal ran too far from her protective aura in his zeal to save Drake, and was killed by Deathwalker 9000. Although Thorgrim wished to retreat as soon as possible, she asked him to wait while Sgt. Drake made his goodbyes to the boy.[7]

A mind-shackled Raelin reveals her identity to Drake and Shotgun in Heroscape Comic 3.
Later, she would be briefly captured by Taelord in battle, and taken to an Utgar fortress where she was mind-shackled by Kee-Mo-Shi, becoming a servant of Utgar and tasked with riding Mimring. A rescue attempt was made by Sgt. Drake Alexander and Johnny 'Shotgun' Sullivan, but they were aghast that she claimed she had joined Utgar's side of her own volition.[8]
Sgt. Drake and Shotgun Sullivan would try again to rescue her, and she briefly tried to convert Sgt. Drake to Utgar's cause before attempting to skewer him out of a tower. He was able to remove the amulet from her neck with his Katana of Thorian before falling, and she caught Drake mid-air, lowering him and Shotgun safely to the ground. After Drake destroyed the amulet, killing Kee-Mo-Shi, she stood over the fallen witch's body, and was confused by Shotgun's saying he was still under the spell of her 'baby blues' before she flew off to get some space.[9]
At the Battle of Stechevan, she would intervene after Sgt. Drake's mission into Utgar's camp went wrong, stopping Cyprien Esenwein from killing him. She took him to safety and when he woke up informed him that she was having an arm brace constructed for him by Zetacron to allow him to regain use of his arm.[10]
She would assist Sgt. Drake again during a battle at Ullar's half-finished stronghold on the Bitter Sea, preventing him from being gunned down by Marro Stingers. She had begun to work on expanding the reach of her protective field, possibly at the cost of its effectiveness. Later, she would be present in a meeting with Sgt. Drake and Atlaga at Ullar's new shoreside fortress, where the members of the expedition bound south for Ticalla would be determined. She had made up her mind about the lineup:[11]
“We have chosen the heroes who will accompany us on our journey: Sonlen, the elven mage for his knowledge and skill with the magical arts; Major Q10, a leader in Vydar’s army who successfully quelled the most recent attack by the Marro on this very stronghold; and finally, the young ninja that Einar summoned, who accompanied Thormun’s party on their return trip from Lindesfarme. Thusly, our company will have representatives from each of the four allied Valkyrie Generals.” - Raelin
On a scouting mission with Sgt. Drake Alexander and Major Q10, Drake became engaged in a battle with Krug and some Marro Stingers. After defeating Krug, he was confronted by Raelin for his reckless behavior, and the group exchanged some words about their respective pasts.
"Drake. Drake, maybe I was out of line a moment ago. But I want you to understand something. Utgar destroyed everything. Everyone I ever knew or loved. My world is gone now. And if we don't stop him, he'll do the same to yours. Because to me, this is the war that matters." - Raelin

The group made their way towards Concan's Castle, and while Raelin and Major Q10 provided a distraction for the Marro Drones outside, Sgt. Drake grappled his way inside and confronted Mimring, who had come into possession of the Glyph of Astrid and guarded the castle as well as the Wellspring within it. After bringing a portion of the castle down on the dragon, Mimring was defeated and Concan's Castle was freed from Utgar occupation.[12]

Swarm of the Marro[]
After this, she was sent on a mission to the Ticalla Jungle to investigate and extinguish the threat of the Marro Hive. She was accompanied by Sgt. Drake Alexander, Major Q10, Sonlen, and Shiori.
The group had a difficult journey through the Volcarren lava fields, in between dodging flaming debris from the volcanoes and dying of thirst. However, they at long last made it down through the land bridge into Ticalla.[13]
While Major Q10 and Shiori went to scout ahead, Sgt. Drake, Raelin and Sonlen came across a murky portion of swamp in The Narrows where several Marro Stingers, Marro Drudge and Marrden Nagrubs lay in the water among the corpses of travelers they had killed. They were initially caught by surprise but managed to survive the attack and keep moving to meet up with Major Q10, who informed them that Shiori had been captured by the Marro.[13]
They had a battle to free Shiori at Montiqua Ledge, continuing to cut through the increasingly dense Marro forces. After that, they decided to stay off any cleared paths, and remained inconspicuous until they finally arrived at Xualtiaca, home to one of the greater Marro Hives in Ticalla. There they fought with the marro hivelord Tor-Kul-Na and his minions, and the group sustained many injuries in the battle. Sgt. Drake likely had several ribs broken by a swipe from Tor-Kul-Na, Major Q10 had the internal wiring for one of his arms severed by Tor-Kul-Na's spear, and Raelin was gunned by Marro Drudge out of the sky, and was weakened but alive afterward.[13]
Eventually, Tor-Kul-Na's steed would be stabbed through the chest by Drake, and Sonlen used his destructive magic to destroy the Marro Hive. In the aftermath, the wounded group found that they were being approached by Kyrie of the Moon Tribe, who had been circling them from high above for some time. With translation provided magically by Sonlen, they were able to understand that the kyrie wished to take them to meet their leader, Aquilla. Raelin told Drake of an old kyrie verse regarding Thorian, a hero from the Moon Tribe whose Katana Drake had been given:[13]
On the Wings of Thorian,
Across the fires Volcarren,
Flies a blade that hides,
From wicked eyes,
The champion
Of the Great Moon Tribe
Your sword Drake, it was forged here in the south and brought to us in the north, at a time of great need, by the kyrie champion of old—Thorian, of whom there are many more songs that can be sung. These Kyrie that descend upon us now, they must be remnants of Thorian’s people.” - Raelin
The group was welcomed to the city of the moon tribe, where they were given the chance to rest and clad in white and golden robes. When they had recovered they were given audience with Aquilla, who said she had foreseen Thorian's return to the city and asked the group to continue to help her in ridding Ticalla of its Marro threat.[14]

Age of Annihilation[]
Later, in the Age of Annihilation, she was once again possessed by Kee-Mo-Shi, and rode a manticore in Utgar's service.[15]
Raelin, along with Loviatäk, represented Utgar at the peace summit in central Aunstrom.[16] When the summit collapsed due to both poisoned Valkyrie and conflicts between the rival encampments of soldiers, they blamed Revna for the chaos, and gave chase to Revna's representatives Raakchott and Misaerx as they attempted to flee to Hesvha Basin.[17][18]
Revna's forces were protected by representatives of Jandar, Knight Irene and the Frostclaw Paladins, who would then pursue Raelin and Loviatäk to the Howling Pass in Upper Bleakwoode to settle a longstanding grudge between Knight Irene and Raelin.[19]
Days later, Loviatäk would make for the Vacant Post of Ostrivick to recover an amulet identical to the one that Raelin wore under the influence of Kee-Mo-Shi's mind shackle.[20]
Raelin provided Loviatäk with the information that the inclement weather at a frostbitten fjord on Nastralund's border would obscure travelers from sight, information which Loviatäk was later able to use to pinpoint the location of a pirate crew attempting to poison one of Jandar's wellsprings.[21]
Additional Info[]

Craig Van Ness's 'Evil Raelin' can be spotted on the bottom shelf.
At one point near her storyline when the Will of Kee-Mo-Shi was being produced, an 'Evil Raelin' miniature was considered for release. A painted prototype exists on the shelves of Heroscape designer Craig Van Ness.[22] Later, it seems an Evil Raelin would be properly produced in the Age of Annihilation, riding a Manticore.[23]
In the Age of Annihilation Paint Set, the color Raelin's Manticore is named after this creature.[24]
Raelin is one of original designer Craig Van Ness's go-to units to play, along with the first Heroscape figure he ever created.[25] Raelin is also Renegade Game Studios president Scott Gaeta's favorite Heroscape character.[26][27]
In the unused first draft script for the Heroscape Webisode, she was a child when Taelord stormed her village with an army of Gruts and killed her father in front of her, prompting her being raised to fight by Jandar.[28]
Scott said of upcoming plans for Age of Annihilation:
"I’m really excited about Raelin, for many reasons. Because what (2023 Heroscape designer) Rowan’s working on got me really excited, it also got Craig (Van Ness) very excited, and what marketing is working on has also got me really excited about that character. And if everything aligns and goes well, I think we’re going to do some really cool fun things, not just in the game, but outside of the game possibly. We’ll see." - Scot Gaeta, Renegade Games Studios.[29]
She is voiced in the Heroscape Mini-Movie by Peggy O'Neal. In the mini-movie she is depicted as having been present at Sgt. Drake's summoning alongside Major Q10; this creates a bit of an error in canon compared to the Heroscape Animated Commercial and Heroscape Comic #2.
