In the heart of Bleakwoode lies a great source of magic. It is rumored to make the trees grow to incredible heights, and to grow dark, move in close to each other, and shut out the light. Foul creatures dwell in the everlasting night they create. The power of perverse creation is so strong in Bleakwoode that some say souls are born in that place - empty, hateful souls.
Natives of Valhalla will avoid spending the night in the forests of Bleakwoode at all costs. They warn the foolhardy and the ignorant to beware the Shades of Bleakewoode.[1]

Before moving, each Shade of Bleakewoode you control may choose an adjacent unique hero. Roll the 20-sided die once for each Shade. If you roll 19 or 20, destroy the Shade of Bleakewoode figure, then take control of the chosen unique hero and remove any Order Marker on its card. You now control that Army Card.
- Stealth Flying:
When counting spaces for Shades of Bleakewoode's movement, ignore elevations. Shades of Bleakewoode may fly over water without stopping, pass over figures without becoming engaged, and fly over obstacles such as ruins. When a Shade of Bleakwoode starts to fly, if it is engaged it will not take any leaving engagement attacks.

History[]
The Shades of Bleakewoode haunted the forests of Bleakwoode, a region it is likely that Utgar controlled during the Rise of the Valkyrie.
While a caravan of Thormun, Concan, Kelda, Tyrian, Beldun, and six Protectors of Ullar would be passing through on horseback on their mission to visit Einar in Lindesfarme and convince him to join the Alliance against Utgar, the group was ambushed by Shades. One possessed Tyrian, and used his body to shoot two Protectors with his pistol-like crossbow. More shades attacked Thormun, but were driven off by Kelda and the others. She mended the wounds they received from the shade's ethereal claws.[2]
